About “College Pete” & Andy
Dear Andy and Pete:

“Now that the college admissions process is over, our daughter has graduated from high school and we are getting ready to take her to college later this summer, it’s time to recognize the extraordinary job you have done for us. At this time last year, we were very concerned about the prospect of out of state tuition. Our dream of sending her to the best school and not just the one we could afford seemed very distant. To complicate matters, our daughter was vacillating on her major, the location of the school and its size – she had many doubts and we had few answers.

However, from the very beginning of the process, you encouraged us to remain positive about her prospects and as soon as you started working, she became more focused on the best fit rather than what she had heard from school advisors or friends. In a way, she was eliminating options and honing in on what she really was looking for in a school. At the same time, we reviewed our financial situation and you encouraged us to be positive about the out of state options.

Her long and incongruent “wish list” quickly evolved into ten schools – three in state and seven out with a balance of a few “back ups”, the core choices and one stretch school. She was confident and focused as she plunged into the applications. With your guidance, she wrote some terrific essays and completed all ten on time. While all of this was going on you magically expedited the FAFSA and other financial paperwork to all the schools taking that burden and administrative nightmare off our shoulders.

The proof of your program was she was accepted at seven Top 100 schools four of which were out of state, waitlisted at two out of states and was only declined at the “stretch” school, Georgetown. As it turned out, the first school to reply was the one she finally chose but that was only decided once we had all the offers in hand. Every single school made very generous scholarship offers and we ended up choosing at Top 30 school that offered 95% of the total cost of attendance, 70% of which was free money!

We look forward to the next 4 years and our next child knowing that we have the College Planners on our team. Thanks again, Andy and Pete – it has been a pleasure working with you.”

Regards,
Tom Browne

“My son is seriously happy with his school choice. He had a very specific vision for a particular program that he was looking to pursue. We spent hours on the internet searching for his program of interest. He never would have learned about Colorado State’s landscape architecture program if it hadn’t been for the team at College Planning. He has real hope and excitement now for his future and is very motivated to succeed in his college experience… seeing that hope and enthusiasm… that alone was worth the investment.”

Sincerely,
Jan Lyon

“I told them ’I don’t want to play games with my money or get some extra bill in the future.’ They promised I would get back five times what I invested for the service. They were true to their word.”

Dear ”College Pete,“

“Thank you for accepting Miami-Palmetto High School PTSA’s invitation to attend two of our meetings this year! Your “College Funding Secrets ’Revealed’” presentation is a PTSA Program Chair’s dream as it was well attended and well received. Your talk drew two of our largest audiences this year and parents overwhelmingly gave the presentation two thumbs up, saying that they appreciated your “straight forward” approach. Your information was clear, comprehensive and well organized. Not only did you dispel the myths surrounding financial aid but you left us with some informational gems. Thanks again for providing this service for our college-bound students and their families! ”

Dear Parent of a College-Bound Teen –

Although we’re in the throes of an economic crisis, there’s no relief in sight when it comes to paying for college!

Have you crunched the numbers on how much one year of college costs? It’s not just tuition – costs include room and board, fees, books, laptop, fees, insurance and other incidentals.

They add up – one year at a public university can easily push $20,000! Private colleges and universities are typically more than $50,000 per year, per child!

To makes matters worse, these costs continue to increase – at a clip roughly double the rate of inflation!

And if you’re a member of the “Forgotten Middle Class,” you may think your situation is hopeless.

But you’re dead wrong!

See, most families earning six-figure incomes reflexively rule out even bothering to apply for financial aid. That’s a deadly mistake!

A mistake that can cost thousands. Tens of thousands, even!

A recent study showed that 53% of all eligible families don’t even bother applying for aid. Tens of millions of dollars are being left on the table year in, year out. And thousands of deserving teens are needlessly forced to attend colleges that their parents mistakenly think are unaffordable. That’s a crying shame and it’s flat-out wrong.

It Can Cost Your Less Out of Pocket to Attend an “Expensive” Private College Compared to a So-called “Cheaper” Public University!

Why? How?

Because the more expensive, elite, competitive colleges tend to have larger endowments. Endowments that translate into more financial aid for even “Forgotten Middle Class” families.

You Save Big If You Know the
“Rules of the Game.”

But most parents never even come close to maximizing their eligibility under the system!

How can this happen? Probably because most high-income families don’t bother, Because they think they’re wasting time.

Or maybe it has to do with Secretary of Education Arne Duncan’s quote about the financial aid forms – “You basically need a Ph.D. to figure that thing out.”

Regardless, the families that we see day in, day out at our workshops and in our practice continually tell us that they’re not getting this important information from their guidance counselors, college advisors, CPA’s or other “trusted advisors. ”

And in many cases, the very advice they’ve received, though well-intentioned, ends up costing thousands of dollars in lost scholarships, grants and other financial aid!

Because it’s not always how much you’ve saved for college,      it’s also a matter of where you’ve saved!!!
